AGE LIMITS FOR THE MILITARY

If you are reading this, then you have considered joining the military at least once in your life. All of us have, but unfortunately, not all of us can.

Sadly, there are some age and health restrictions that prohibit us from joining the armed forces.

In this blog post, we will be discussing the age limits for all of the branches of the military. Make sure to stick around to know whether you are eligible to join!

WHAT IS THE PERFECT AGE TO JOIN?

As generic as this sounds — there is no perfect age to join the military. As long as you are dedicated, physically, and mentally tough and strong — you will pass Bootcamp with flying colours. Of course, the question that is bothering you is “Am I too old to join?”

I will address this matter later in the blog post, but I wanted to mention a couple of things before we go any further. It is important that you understand the following, and take that into account. Younger recruits will have a significant advantage when it comes to recovery time.

Older recruits are more prone to sustain injuries, and sadly it also takes them longer to recover and get back on their feet. Sustaining a serious injury during basic training can lead to a temporary discharge.

Sometimes the military prefers you have a college degree, over a standard high school diploma. In my opinion, the optimal age to join the armed forces would be anywhere between 21 and 26. Some people might disagree with me, and that’s okay.

It doesn’t matter what I say, or in fact what anybody says. If you are eligible, strong, fit, and believe this is the right path for you — nobody should get in your way!

DO OLDER RECRUITS HAVE AN ADVANTAGE?

Indeed they do! They have something that a lot of younger recruits do not yet possess at that age — discipline. Older recruits tend to be more self driven and disciplined. They are not as impulsive as their younger counterparts — which I believe is a huge advantage.

Of course, I haven’t mentioned the most obvious and frankly one of the most important things — life experience. Older recruits shouldn’t get discouraged, they have the same chances of excelling in the military!

During Bootcamp, you will sometimes be asked to do very “silly”, irrational, and “stupid” things. Some older guys tend to get annoyed with the “stupidity” — so they choose to leave.

Don’t listen to me, if you believe you’ve got what it takes — do not hesitate!

I am young, but am ambitious. I am full of respect towards military service members, and hope to one day fill their shoes.
